Festive Season Temporary Jobs 2026: How to Apply Safely and What to Check

By CareerCola Editorial Team Published

Festive season temporary jobs in India are mostly in warehouses, sorting centres, dark stores, last-mile delivery and customer support, and they are hiring right now. To get one safely, apply through the company's official careers site or a staffing agency you can verify, never pay a fee, and before you start, confirm three things in writing: who your actual employer is, how and when you will be paid, and whether PF, ESIC or insurance cover applies. Most of these roles run from a few weeks to a couple of months, and some do lead to longer work, but nobody can promise that.

The scale this year is large. Amazon India said on 2 September 2026 that it had created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across 400-plus cities. Flipkart announced more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect opportunities on 15 September, with about 75,000 meant for first-time workforce entrants and roughly 60% in last-mile delivery. A foundit tracker reported on 6 October that festive hiring was up 7% year on year, led by quick commerce. With numbers like these, fake recruiters are busy too, so it pays to slow down for a minute before you say yes.

What the work actually involves

Job titles vary by company, but most festive roles fall into a few buckets:

  • Warehouse and fulfilment associates who pick, pack, scan and load orders. Expect long hours on your feet, shift work and targets.
  • Sortation staff at hubs that route parcels to delivery stations.
  • Dark-store and quick-commerce staff who pick orders for 10-to-30-minute deliveries. Night shifts are common.
  • Delivery associates, sometimes as employees of a delivery partner and often as gig workers with their own two-wheeler.
  • Customer support roles, sometimes from home, handling order and return queries during sale periods.

Physical roles need stamina more than qualifications. Delivery roles usually need a valid driving licence, a smartphone and sometimes your own vehicle. Support roles care more about language skills and patience with angry customers.

Employee, contract worker or gig worker? Find out first

This is the question that decides your pay, your protections and what happens if you get hurt, and people rarely ask it.

Some festive workers are hired directly by the company. Many are hired by a third-party manpower agency and placed at the company's warehouse. Delivery partners are often engaged as gig or platform workers, paid per order or per shift.

Each arrangement is legitimate, but your rights differ. Ask the recruiter plainly: "Whose name will be on my offer letter or contract, and who will pay my salary?" Under the new labour codes, appointment letters are mandatory for workers, so it is fair to expect something in writing before day one. Amazon's own announcement says associates working at its sites are entitled to PF, ESIC and gratuity "in accordance with applicable laws", which is the kind of statement you should look for in any company's terms.

If you are working as a gig or platform worker, register on the government's e-Shram portal. Under the Code on Social Security, gig and platform workers are covered by social security schemes, and the 2026 central rules require aggregators to onboard their workers onto e-Shram. Both Amazon and Flipkart said this season that they help associates with e-Shram registration.

Questions to ask before you accept

Keep these on your phone and ask them politely. A genuine recruiter will not mind.

  • What is the pay per day, per shift or per month, and is that before or after deductions?
  • When is salary paid, and into which account? For monthly wages, the Code on Wages requires payment before the seventh of the following month.
  • How many hours is a shift, and how is overtime paid? Where overtime rules apply, it is paid at twice the normal rate.
  • Will PF and ESIC be deducted? Is there accident insurance?
  • How long is the assignment, and what happens at the end?
  • For night shifts, especially for women: what transport and safety arrangements are in place? The labour codes allow women to work night shifts with their consent and with safety measures.

How to avoid fake festive job offers

Every big hiring season brings messages like "Amazon warehouse job, joining tomorrow, pay ₹1,500 for ID card". Amazon's India fraud alert on its careers site says plainly that it does not charge any fee at any stage of recruitment. The same principle holds for almost any genuine employer. A few rules that keep people safe:

  • Do not pay for registration, uniforms, training kits, medical tests or "security deposits".
  • Apply through the company's official careers site, or check that the agency is real (a physical office, a company website, a GST number you can look up).
  • Be wary of offers that come only on WhatsApp or Telegram with no written contract.
  • Never share OTPs, UPI PINs or bank passwords with a recruiter.

Can a festive job turn into a permanent one?

Sometimes. Amazon's own statement says many seasonal associates continue beyond the festive period and some return every year. Flipkart talks about first-time entrants and certifications through its supply chain academy. That said, the honest expectation is that most seasonal contracts end when the peak ends.

From what I have seen, the people who get kept on tend to do a few simple things well: they turn up for every shift, especially the difficult ones just before big sale days, they learn the scanning systems quickly, and they let the shift supervisor know, near the end, that they want to stay. If you are a student or fresher, a festive stint also gives you something concrete for your resume, like "processed X orders per shift" or "handled returns queries in Hindi and English". Our guide on first jobs after B.Com, BBA or BA shows how to turn that kind of experience into a stronger application.

If this is your first formal job and PF is deducted, you may also qualify for the government's first-job incentive. See our guide on the PM-VBRY incentive of up to ₹15,000. Keep in mind it needs six months with the same employer for the first instalment, so a short seasonal contract usually will not be enough on its own.

Where to look

Hiring this season is spread well beyond the metros, with companies naming cities such as Varanasi, Kochi, Ranchi, Salem and Gorakhpur. On CareerCola you can filter by job type, including temporary, part-time and contract, and browse categories such as retail and transportation and logistics. City pages like Lucknow, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar and Kochi help if you want to stay close to home.

A festive job will not change your career by itself, but it is real, paid work, often available within days. Go in with clear terms, keep your documents, and treat it as a chance to show someone reliable work. That last part is what turns a six-week contract into a phone call next year.
