Protect yourself while job hunting

CareerCola helps you discover openings, but we do not guarantee that every employer or job posting is genuine. Use this guide to spot scams, apply safely, and report suspicious listings.

Job Safety & Anti-Fraud

This guide explains how to protect yourself while searching and applying for jobs on CareerCola. Job hunting can attract scammers who impersonate employers, pressure candidates for money, or harvest sensitive data. Read the sections below before you share personal information or pay any fee.

What CareerCola does and does not verify

CareerCola publishes job listings from employers, approved imports, and moderation workflows. We review safety reports and may remove or expire listings when we find credible abuse.

  • We do not guarantee that every employer, recruiter, or job posting on CareerCola is genuine, current, or complete.
  • We do not verify every off-platform conversation, WhatsApp message, or email you receive after clicking an apply link.
  • We do not guarantee interview outcomes, hiring decisions, or salary amounts shown in a listing.
  • We may review reports, unpublish listings, restrict accounts, and keep internal notes for repeat abuse patterns.

You are responsible for evaluating each opportunity. When in doubt, stop contact and use the reporting options described below.

Common scams and warning signs

Scammers often mix believable job titles with urgent requests. Treat the following as red flags — especially when several appear together.

Fake job offers and "guaranteed" roles

  • Unsolicited offers for roles you never applied for, often with immediate "selection" or a start date before any real interview.
  • Promises of guaranteed employment, guaranteed salary, or "100% placement" in exchange for action on your side.
  • Recruiters who refuse to name the hiring company, share a verifiable careers page, or explain the interview process.
  • Job titles that do not match the described work (for example a "Manager" role with no experience required and vague duties).

Payment, registration, and training fees

Legitimate employers do not ask candidates to pay to apply, interview, receive an offer letter, or start work. Be cautious if anyone asks for:

  • Registration, application, processing, or background-check fees paid to a personal UPI ID or unknown account
  • Training fees, kit deposits, or "security deposits" before your first day
  • Payment via gift cards, crypto, cash couriers, or irreversible transfer methods

Never send money to obtain a job through CareerCola or any employer contact you cannot independently verify.

Fake interviews and hiring claims

  • Interviews conducted only over chat apps with no video call, no company email domain, and no named interviewer.
  • Offer letters sent from free email services rather than the employer's domain, or PDFs with mismatched logos and addresses.
  • Pressure to resign from your current job or share employer documents before a written offer on official channels.
  • Requests to "confirm" hiring by paying a fee or sharing banking details for "payroll setup" before onboarding paperwork.

Suspicious links, downloads, and attachments

  • Shortened URLs, look-alike domains (for example a misspelling of a well-known company), or links that do not match the employer named in the listing.
  • Unexpected executable files, "interview apps," or document templates that ask you to enable macros.
  • Forms hosted on unrelated sites that request more data than a normal job application needs.

On CareerCola, check each job page for the apply method. External apply links should lead to domains you recognize. If a listing on CareerCola points somewhere suspicious, report the job instead of continuing.

Requests for OTPs, passwords, or sensitive information

Do not share the following with anyone claiming to represent an employer or CareerCola support:

  • One-time passwords (OTPs), UPI PINs, card CVV, net-banking passwords, or account recovery codes
  • Passwords for email, social media, government portals, or your CareerCola account
  • Full bank statements, Aadhaar/PAN copies, or scans sent through unofficial chat apps under time pressure

CareerCola staff will not ask for your password or OTP to review a report. Use official pages such as Account settings to manage your account.

Identity and payment fraud warning signs

  • Requests to receive and forward money, purchase equipment on behalf of a "new employer," or act as a payment intermediary.
  • Checks or transfers that arrive before you have completed legitimate onboarding with a verified company.
  • Use of your personal bank account to "test" payroll systems.

Misleading job information

  • Location, work mode, or employment type on CareerCola that clearly conflicts with what a contact tells you later.
  • Company names similar to well-known brands but with different websites or no public presence.
  • Descriptions copied from unrelated roles, extreme spelling errors, or contact details that do not match the company profile on CareerCola.

Compare the job page with the company profile when one is available. Read our guide on how to read a job description for practical checks before you apply.

How to verify an opportunity

  1. Start on CareerCola. Open the job from Browse jobs or search. Note the company name, location, work mode, and apply method shown on the job page.
  2. Check the company. Visit the company profile on CareerCola when linked, then confirm the same organization through its official website and public contact channels — not only through a chat app number in a message.
  3. Confirm the apply path. Portal apply stays on CareerCola; external apply should open a careers site you recognize. Be wary of redirects to unrelated domains.
  4. Validate interviews. Ask for interview details in writing, verify the interviewer's company email domain, and use video calls when possible.
  5. Pause if pressured. Scammers create urgency. Legitimate hiring may move quickly, but it should not require secret payments or credential sharing.

Safe application practices

  • Apply through the method shown on the job page — portal apply on CareerCola or the employer's linked careers site.
  • Upload resumes and cover letters you are comfortable sharing; avoid sending identity documents unless a verified employer requests them through a secure, expected channel.
  • Keep copies of what you submitted and which URL you used.
  • Do not install unknown apps or grant remote access to your computer as part of an "interview."
  • If you use external apply, the employer's privacy policy applies on their site — review it before submitting data.

See Candidate Guidelines and Candidate support for more on using CareerCola responsibly.

Account and privacy safety

  • Use a strong, unique password for your CareerCola account and sign out on shared devices.
  • Review what you store in your candidate profile and application materials.
  • Read the Privacy Policy to understand how CareerCola handles account and application data.
  • To request deletion of personal data, use the data deletion request process described in our privacy documentation.
  • For general privacy questions, use the Contact form — do not post sensitive details in public feedback fields.

How to report a suspicious job or company on CareerCola

Reporting helps moderators review abuse. Reports are handled by CareerCola staff — your reporter identity is not shared with employers.

  1. Open the job page or company profile you are concerned about.
  2. Choose Report this job or the company report link on that page.
  3. Select the reason that best matches what you saw. Available reasons include: Suspected fake job, Payment or fee request, Suspicious employer, Misleading information, Phishing or scam and Other.
  4. Add optional details — message snippets, suspicious URLs, or what you were asked to pay — so moderators can investigate.
  5. Guests may submit a report with an optional email for follow-up. Signed-in users may have their account email attached automatically.

Reports are rate-limited and include spam protection. Submit one report per listing rather than duplicate forms.

If you need general help using the site, read Help / FAQ or Candidate support. Those pages are not a substitute for reporting a specific suspicious listing.

What happens after you report

Reports enter an internal moderation queue. A moderator may review the listing, associated company profile, and your description.

  • Status updates are tracked internally (for example pending, reviewing, resolved, or rejected). We do not publish a public ticket number for every report.
  • Possible actions include requesting internal clarification, unpublishing or expiring a live job, or restricting accounts tied to abuse. Not every report results in removal — some need more context or do not violate site rules.
  • Follow-up may occur using the email you provided. We cannot promise a specific response time.
  • Off-platform harm (money already sent, identity theft) should also be reported to your bank, payment provider, and relevant authorities as applicable — CareerCola cannot reverse third-party payments.
